About us

The Environment and Climate Research Hub (ECH) is the a cross-cutting institution within the University of Vienna. It connects researchers from all disciplines that engage with the topics, environment, climate and sustainability.

The ECH

counts as an important address for environment and climate research and therefore a central reference point and cooperating partner for research institutions, governmental actors, media and society.  We strive to position ourselves as a leader in Europe for environment and climate research.

The ECH

shapes societal narratives in the area of environment and climate using expertise from researchers. Our research is the starting point that determines how we debate novel frontiers in environment and climate, and position our findings in a broader scientific context.

The ECH

fosters the development of new research ideas and projects that aim to overcome existing knowledge barriers in their respective disciplines (blue sky thinking). They enable us to link new, innovative perspectives and show positive solutions to implement research findings in our society.

The ECH

is a knowledge hub with a societal impact. Our findings shape the education of future scientific leaders, discussions with political and societal decision-makers as well as institutions and civil groups that aim to protect the environment and climate.
