We are facing a triple crisis: climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution each pose separate yet interconnected challenges. An integrated and mechanistic understanding and approach to these different facets of the crisis is necessary to ensure a sustainable future for us all. University of Vienna receives observer status at the International Seabed Authority (ISA)

Established under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, ISA manages the mineral resources of the deep sea as the common heritage of mankind and develops the international rules governing their use. ECH member Alice Vadrot has been following the ISA negotiations with her Environmental Research Group for several years. Now, with the official observer status, more researchers from the University of Vienna can attend the meetings in person and contribute scientific insights directly.
